Here in Trastevere, at the foot of the Gianicolo hill, are the apartments most characteristic of Rome’s traditional quarters, where you can still breathe the atmosphere of the Eternal City.
Trastevere is an enchanting neighborhood to explore, with wonderful old churches, quaint piazzas and dozens of restaurants for all budgets. Within a stone’s throw is the splendid 16th century Renaissance palace Villa Farnesina, on Lungotevere Farnesina with its entrance on Via della Lungara. Facing the Villa, at Via della Lungara 10, is the Palazzo Corsini with its collection of 17th and 18th century European paintings. The Botanical Gardens, Largo Cristina di Svezia 24 off via Corsini, features wonderful collections of orchids and bromeliads and other plant species from all over the world. The Vatican and St. Peter’s Church are just up the Tevere. A bit farther down the Lungotevere is the imposing Castel Sant’Angelo.
