At home here in the UK we have a 4 year old vine which has about 3 kilos of grapes on it. Has anyone any ideas what we can do with such a small amount (sensible please!)

You can make a quite nice jelly for spreading on your morning toast! I've made it from greenhouse grapes in the past and I am sure you will find a recipe from a bit of googling - good luck!

COGNÀ

The cognà or grape pickle is an interesting alternative:

Buy some very nice Stilton and have with that and a good Chianti.

I used this recipe to make grape jelly last year though my grapes (grown in sunny Herts) are small black ones rather than white.

I don't see why it would not work with white grapes but am not an expert.  Perhaps you could research recipes for white grape jelly?  One batch of my grape jelly did not set so I included a sachet of Silver Spoon Pectin (1.3g for each 1kg of sugar).  The grape jelly is more like jam and is delicious.  I have requests to make more this year but sadly there are not as many grapes.

I also made grape juice by completing stage 1 only of the recipe and that was very nice instead of the ususal orange juice.  I stored it in jars with lids in the fridge and it was fine for the 5 or so days it lasted before we had drunk it.

By the way, I was too impatient to wait overnight for the grape juice so after cooking the grapes I put small quantities into a metal sieve and pressed the juice out of the grapes with the back of a wooden spoon.  It seemed to work ok.

Thanks for all the comments, With Stilton sounds great but they have pips!!! ( the grapes) We have since made some Grape jelly by mashing up after boiling, in a processer then through a sieve, then boiling with sugar and it set quickly and has bottled well, tastes a little like honey as is sweet, but we still have a lot of bunches left to deal with.

I notice no sarcastic comments about being underage!
