today the government for the second time in a couple of weeks have been defeated on a a serious froeign policy vote... this time however it should be the end of the government...well in anu other democracy... by the end of today we will see if they are men of honour.....

this morning the foreign secretary ...D'alema... who proposed the discussion for the vote... said yesterday that if the governemnt lost they would go home...resign..

well they lost by two votes in the senate ... basically what should happen is that the government now resigns... because the extreem left as in the first Prodi governemnt have voted against its leaders...

next...the president will see if there is a new governement that can be formed by a different coalition... obviously from the left side this would be hard with the extreme parts of this still in more or less control... but without the numbers to run the country...the right wing with a smaller number of elected representatives and the problem already of the UDC not remaining within the CDL has the same problem ...

so its a complete botch up anyway... and with an election procedure which was changed for the last election but needs serious fine tuning... basically agreed by all parties...which was also on the lefts agenda of things to do... even a new election could leave the country basically again hung with no clear majority in both houses....

italian politics always a bit of a bumpy ride has showed again that Prodi cannot sustain any control .... so its going to be either a national government to allow a cleaner solution and a bit of time or else an election... ... or maybe theres another solution... Prodi just ignores the democratic procedure...
