These points are the most important:

☼ Short distance taxi journeys are very expensive, they not trying to rip you off! For example, the journey from the airport to Alghero is about 20 euros and takes about 10mins. The same applied to the trip from our B&B to Alghero, but a round trip only cost 5 euros more.
☼ The bus services aren’t great, especially out of season, and though car hire is a good idea you need luck when finding somewhere to park!
☼ There are plenty of cycle hire places around, of the pedal or motor type. Alghero and its surrounding countryside are beautiful so a bike journey wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
☼ All the locals were extremely friendly and seemed to go out of their way to help us, the tourist office staff were great too.
☼ The shape of the historical centre is focused around the port and because of this, you’re not likely to get lost.
☼ Alghero airport is tiny, and once you find your way through the security checks there’s no bar, and only a few small stores, so do your gift shopping before getting to the airport.
