What you are looking for is public information: you need to consult the catastal register and also the local conservatoria (for any recent transactions). By far the easiest and (I would suggest) safest way to do this is to ask a preferably local notaio or geometra. Preferably local only because they might have a little more background information stowed away in their heads! (I'm assuming the catastal registries in Sicily are available in the same way as on the peninsular).

It is possible to do this research yourself, though not yet (as far as I know) via a website. (Though there are agencies which will get you a 'visura catastale' for a small payment.) The notaios and geometras have subscription access to the relevant websites: they also have the expertise to interpret the information retrieved, which is not an entirely simple issue.

You will need the catastal details of the property (Comune, Foglio, particelle), and if you do not have this information to hand you will first need to locate the property on a mappa catastale (which most geometras should be able to pull up on their screen).
