I bought my house on the edge of S. Lazio/Molise/Abruzzo national park. As said above, S Lazio has hardly been invaded by other nationalities (although there are a few Irish/Italians and Scottish/Italians around). And so beautiful, in the mountains and easy driving to the Med. And not as hot as further south, yet less than an hour and a half to Rome, similar to Naples and Pompeii. We are 15 mins from Cassino (as in Monte Cassino). House prices are excellent value, but they are rising steadily because the north has become so expensive.
I am moving over there permanently as soon as I can later this year. Cannot wait.
