Buying a house in Italy for non EU members

Hi, can anyone help me with this problem? I'm Australian and have put a deposit on a small appartment on Procida(NA), now only to be told that because the islands are considered a special border zone non EU people can't buy property without a special permit which can take along time to obtain.Anyone got any ideas of what is involved & how I might speed up the proccess if possible? All thoughts gratefully recieved, Andrew

Hi Andrew from another Aussie. I was away in Italy when you wrote this and I could not read it. I am catching up with past entries and I see yours. First of all, you should have posted it under the general Forum area, perhaps under legal and you would have received more answers. I do not know anything about this particular permit but it sounds rather strange. At a certain time, Australian citizens had problems buying in Italy because of a conflict between the Italian and the Federal government regarding some quotas on the number of Italians who could migrate to Australia... but this has been resolved now. I will try to make some enquiries, but I advise you to repeat your question in the Forum. Best regards,
