Was coming to Italy the Right Decision

Posted 17-03-09 at 11:06 AM by Valentine
Hi, I'm new to this forum, but have perused it from time to time and I think its a great way to share information and maybe solve the odd problem or two that you experience from living in a new country. I've lived in Italy for 3 years and very shameful do not speak the language very well - however I do have my excuses. I have lived for last year stuck up a hillside without a vehicle and the nearest town is 5km. My partner works in a local company for the past 2 years. However he has become very unhappy living in Italy, he now regrets coming. It was his dream to live here but I think he fell under the holiday spell. Living here, and holidaying here are two entirely different things.. The cost of living in Italy is astronomical, and the tax is high. Energies, are all expensive and the government doesnt seem to be interest in solving any of these problems. Can anyone help me win back the charm of this place? Or can anyone please tell me if they are feeling the same, do you regret moving here. Are you thinking of leaving? My partner thinks the place to go is the US, but that is not an easy place to enter... please help

Hello Valentine, you pose some excellent questions which would get numerous replies if you were to repost in the main forum rather than in the blog section here. At the very least you would get a lot of support and understanding - which may be all that is needed to rekindle good feelings.
    Give it a try.

i wish i could live there

:yes:myself and my husband bought a house in chieti abruzzo. we spent last summer doing up the house with our two youngest children. we had a great time, going to festa's the beach etc.. we made lots of friends and hated leaving but the two youngest are in school and we felt it would be unfair to move there just yet. i cant help but wonder if your living in a too romote area, is there any chance you could move closer to the town or buy a cheap runaround. we got 1 and when im there i drive because my husband was working most the time, you'l see a vast improvement with either or both.try to remember why you came and take up a hobbie to get involved with the locals and italian is very easy so get yourself learning there is lot's of free coures both on the net and in cities etc... good luck and let me know how you get on
