Question Italian Furniture

Does anyone know of antique or second hand furniture shops in the Umbria area, we are between Perugia and the Lake Trasimeno we have visited the usual large stores on the recordo but would like something more traditional, any ideas would be welcome.

Try asking on Arredamento.it :: Index - possibly the best forum in the world for that sort of question.

There's a Mercato Usato in Perugia too...I don't think you'll find any wonderful antiques, but you never know....

This should not be too far away from you and they do have vintage and antique furniture: Arte e Giano: mercatino dell'usato Orvieto in Umbria. Compra vendita conto terzi, vendita C/Terzi, usato selezionato, antichitą. ArteeGiano, arte&giano, mercato della compravendita, compravendita">
Also, try to find the closest "Mercatino dell'Usato"
Happy hunting!

A lot of furniture (sold worldwide) is in fact made in Italy and there are lots of specific areas famous for this ( le Marche is an important production centre,Sacile in the North produces alone an incredible % of all the chairs made in the world, north of milano has a lot of the famous designer furniture and as far as i'm aware in umbria they produce quite a lot of "traditional" style and reproduction furniture.Forget antiques right away (most antique dealers i've met in Italy purchase in the UK,eastern europe and france hence they are very expensive and italian antiques tend to be prohibitive (i guess people never sell them). My advice would be go to a reputable furniture store(maybe on someones recomendation) say that you are looking for traditional style furniture and voilą they'll produce high resolution pictures in a dealer catalogue of what you're looking for, they may even have a few pieces on site (but it's unusual to find huge mega stores here that have anything worth while )you'll be pleasantly suprised at the range and the resonable prices etc.

There's a Mercatino dell' Usato outside Perugia behind Corciano in the San Mariana / Ellera area. Another on the road from the lake in Magione.
I have the extreme pleasure every time I'm at our house to visit a true antiques junk man in the hills outside of Montefalco. He's always got fabulous pieces and the poking through large store rooms filled with stuff from many centuries is an adventure. These are things with true history that you may have to do a bit of work on. I've got a beautiful madia dough chest which was reclaimed by me from "stored in a chicken coop for 100 years" condition. Message me for the inside scoop on how to find him if you are interested.

Lots of people say it's hard to find good s-hand/antique furniture in Italy, However, I have to agree with Sebastiano that Italy does seem to excel with reproduction, or 'traditional' hardwood furniture. In spite of my own preference for original or s-hand, I was very impressed with the quality and price of some beautifully crafted stuff, not overtly distressed - just comfortable looking and calm - at a family business called Vannozzi which is in Ruscia near Monteleone Di Spoleto (they also had some of the kitchest living room furniture I've ever seen). Worth a try, even if you dont like what you see, you could have a couple of grappa in the bar at Monteleone and then try and persuade the owner to sell you the beautiful antique counter top that he serves from - better still you could begin with lunch at Colle del Capitano agriturismo. the family there provided us with our happiest and most delicious meal ever in Umbria!

Default Second hand furniture near Perugia

I am still hunting for second-hand furniture places local to Perugia and so need help but here's what I know about these 2...quote..."There's a Mercatino dell' Usato outside Perugia behind Corciano in the San Mariana / Ellera area. Another on the road from the lake in Magione".
The one in Magione is opp Pesciarelli on the Chiusi Road. Opens at 10 am closes Sun & Mon & lunch period. Italian friends told me to watch my bag and beware of Clandestini!!! Actually it's full of dirty mattresses and broken junk and the occasional high priced "treasure" a jug or bowl for example. The owners were horrified when I took a very respectable, linen covered arm chair to sell there. I took it to the other one mentioned above but ended up with only 12 euros, the price of a stool I spotted! These places take 60% and give you 40% They ask for your Codice Fiscale. The 2nd one is much better. Porta Portese at S.Mariano di Corciano Tel 075 5172660 Closed Sun & Mon Hours apprx 10-12.30 16-19.30. In a gap beside the big COSI E COSI shop. There Perugia branch is less good it's hidden away at Ponte s. Giovanni via S. Bartolomew 63 Tel 075 599 7899
