Don't know if they are still available but some banks had loans tied to the Enel scheme. You basically agreed to turn over 8-10 years of Enel payments to the bank. It made the cost for the setup zero. But you had the hassle of getting the loan.

Grid connected is so much better for everybody involved.

Cheaper and less maintance for the home owner.

Lots of power during peak hours for Enel.
