| Campania Campania is generally celebrated for its climate, the fertility of the land and the astonishingly beautiful landscapes. Its artistic and cultural heritage, together with its world famous cuisine, makes it one of the most appreciated regions of Italy at home and abroad. |

Paul, I lived in Naples for 3 1/2 years and never was assualted , robbed or shot at. The Cammorra don't mess with tourists, only their own kind. I don't know where you live but it is much safer than most places in the states. I felt a lot safer there than living where I am now.You just have to be aware of your surroundings at all times and keep your money and passports separate and watch out if you go on a train , if it's packed with people, chances are a lot of them will be pick pockets.
Naples is a wonderful city and the museums are great, Pompei is nice but I like Ercolano (Herculaneum) better. Most of the relics from Pompei are in the National Museum. So, go and have fun and eat some Mozzerralla di Buffala for me you'll never want to eat cow's version again! Ciao, Dan

Much like any other big city then! No, I wasn't too worried about being shot but I was concerned about the rumoured piles of refuse .... doesn't sound too pleasant a place for strolling around in midsummer.
Thanks for the other info - we haven't really got too much into organising this yet. I believe you can visit both the volcanic sites by a local train? PS: I've only ever had buffalo mozarella so shall at least feel at home there! Quote:
