Yes D&R almost too good to be true. We kept checking the state of our bill on Telecom's website (no paper bills for us). A friend said this has made such a difference to my life here...these calls are either free or I am ruined!!! You do have to take the dial 187 route to join up rather than go to a Punto 187 shop.

Here is the information about the telephone card "Edicard" which I always use in Italy to call my daughters in the USA and the UK:

SISAL S.p.A.

There are different cards according to the destination of your calls. I always buy 10 euros cards and they last a long time. And I can assure you that I am ringing my daughters all the time. Mothers!!!!

Default Calling almost for free

Hi, I am in Italy 3 months a year and have overcome this issue with Skype + a Wind prepaid SIM card.
With UMTS I have an almost DSL speed, so I can use Skype.
Every time I go to Italy, I recharge 25 € on my phone and that's it!

Hi
We signed up for this 3 months ago, well worth it for 10 E a month, we still use skype for UK mobiles, but the total cost has come down 60/70 E per month.

Default Goober

Hi guys,
I discovered another tool that can be used with every cellular phones (even the oldest one) to call from Italy to the US for 4 cent/min (+ local rate, that can be 0 if you have some voice package like Noi Italy)
I had some vouchers (2 hours for free) and will post them as soon as I'm back in the office.

I admit I haven't read all the previous pages but I use Edicard - you can get them in many tabacchi - you have a numero verde to phone then you key in your pin number and the number you want to call. I get about 350 minutes to the UK for 10 euros - I think it's great because you know those calls won't be on your phone bill.

Default Phone calls

Hi All

I haven't read all the posts but have you tried the Skype telephones with 3 network? I have used it for a year now. My wife, my son and I have a phone each. We loan one to our daughter when we are in italy. All skype calls are free. My wife and daughter use it every day. My two four year old grandchildren chat on them as well. It is funny hearing one of them walking around the pool area, in Italy, descibing the pool, weather or beach to the other one back in the UK.
We have had a years worth of free calls to and fro to the UK. This is a relief from the extortionate charges that we were subjected to a few years ago.

Ciao

John

Chris
I have only used the Edicard from land lines or public phones and it is very convenient for calls to the UK or USA. I guess that for mobiles it is a different thing.
