Question Alice modem problem

ADSL has finally reached Montalto and I've received my modem.(An Alice Gate 2 plus Wi-Fi). With my usually fatal combination of dealing with Telecom & the curse I've had from birth of never getting anything that works first time I cannot get the damn thing to work. I have attached the phone cable to the wall socket & the modem, inserted the card & attached the power cable to the modem & the wall. It's supposed to take 10-15 mins to configure (or something) but the ADSL light never stops flashing. the power light & the security light are both on. Has anyone had this problem and/ or can help me. Have phoned Telecom Italia & allegedly a technico will be calling me but prefer not to put the poor person through me & my crap Italian!

Are you sure they've turned on the DSL service?

Other then that do you have ADSL filters on the other phones on the line? But this I doubt would stop the system from syncing up. It would just slow things down.

Our older & more basic Alice modem also flashed continuously when it was first set up - we had to put in the filters in all phone sockets - not just the one the modem goes through, which helped a bit, but the problem was not really sorted until a Telecom tecnico came out and tested everything - at our end all was fine but he had to do something at the exchange. Since then, touch wood, iron etc etc it has been fine ( famous last words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

How long did you have to wait to get ADSL, we've been promised it since the end of last year and it still hasn't arrived yet! Getting a bit fed up with slowness. Our commune has sent a letter of protest but nothing seems to be happening!

Thanks to everyone for your advice- will see what happens when I try these things. I think we aited for about 2 years to ADSL but am not sure- as I thought we would probably have to wait for about 10 years I didn't take much notice!!!

I know I may be a bit pernickety here but you have inserted the cd rom in your computer and followed the on-screen instructions? ( In Italian of course).
2 little things for later when you get things going-
Unplug mains power and phone connection whenever a thunderstorm threatens - total anihilation can happen - it happened to my modem!
If attaching to a wall leave screws projecting about half an inch and make sure modem well pushed over said screws otherwise it can fall off wall and cause damage to plastic bits.
If modem dies then get your Italian mate to phone Alice for an exchange number and take it to the nearest agent - I found them v helpful if a bit lugubrious.
Good Luck

You can buy a modem for 25 EUros or so. Or a combined modem/router for not a great deal more. Not much point paying the Alice rental.
