Default Blinking broadband

Can anyone tell me why our already somewhat shakey broadband connection totally goes on the blink when we have rain storms?, its fine this am, but last night after a storm was useless. This happens all the time.As it is we can only have one phone connected as have been told that our signal is weak because we are at the "end of the line", sounds very Italian to me.
Any ideas for improvement? Oh and not too tecky plse. Thanks

Water is getting into the connections some place. Short of fixing that I can't think of anything.

The problem is which part is getting wet?

Thank you for your quick response Nick, do you mean on the outside connection? but forgive me as this is not something I am familiar with, but then wouldnt the phone not work (it does just not broadband). There is no way any of the internal connections get wet, so at what point is the system compromised?.

That's the problem. Where is the leak?. It's some place outside. But it could be right out the door or it could be much further away.

I had this problem in Canada. I finally complained enough they came over dug up the line and fixed it. Which didn't make the guy digging in the heat of July too happy.

On the voice phone. It'll work under much worse conditions then your ADSL. When the DSL goes down is the voice line working 100%? Or do you hear any noise?

No it works fine, no background noise.I should add that our server Tiscali say the problem is with Telecom Italia, who have been out to us twice, and to whom we have made numerous complaints by phone (ha ha), the story is still a weak line.

Really need to hope Telecom finds a problem. Only way I got it fixed was by whining about the phone not working. It would actually stop working in the spring after all the rains. If you complain about the quality of the DSL they'll just shrug and say they never promised perfection.

Angie. It's not the actual rain but the storm which does effect electrical equipment including TVs, computers etc. Always best to turn things off to protect. Friends in France turn their ' phone of just in case.

PS I am on Tiscali UK and my connection is always cutting out regardless of storms. However with every ISP it's been the same!!!

Whenever we have thunder, regardless as to whether there is any rain our modem starts blinking and will not play -the phone is absoulutely fine, so I had always assumed it was due to 'atmospherics' as it always sorts itself out. Conversely, when we have really heavy rain coming from a certain direction we usually completely lose the phone line, we assume it gets wet, it usually comes back on within 24 hours so we just rely on mobiles. A hassle, but not as much as trying to get Telecom to sort it out!!!!!

Telecom Italia have always been very good in this area if there were any problems. Last one here, was the modem giving up during a storm ( Cisco Lyncis) I think it was, but TI came out and checked within 3 days to confirm. Now have a Nilox USB modem for about E35 which has worked well, even in the last few days storms. We do use Alice broadband which has never been a problem over the last few years.

It might also be worth looking at buying a UPS, that should give you about 45 mins power in the event of a blackout, handy as most phones these days need a power supply ....
