Question Festa delle donne

A poster in the piazza 'sta matina alerted me to the fact that this Sunday 8/3/09 is the festa delle donne.

I understand it is traditional (at least around here) to present people of a female disposition with a clump of Mimosa.

Without giving me loads of google links - (which I am well equipeed to find myself), I wondered please if anyone out there from personal experience/knowledge could enlighten a dumb bloke as to the origins of the festa, and what typically might be expected of me before I am summoned for a sumptious 5 course lunch and then go off to sharpen my chainsaw.

Goodness the silence is deafening Ghianda. I suspect eventually Google will rear its "ugly head".

There is no conspiracy, nor any need for Google (or anything else) to rear it's ugly head - it's just that the topic has been covered before Gander - mainly by Adriatica and I - 3 years ago and as I see no point in retyping my own words - here is a link to the thread. Enjoy!

Though I don't know the origins the mimosa thing is very big here and as for you being summoned to a sumptuous 5 couse lunch as you are a bloke that will not happen- it's for us ladies only!!!! (which reminds me must go & see where the neighbours are off to this year & see if I can tag along!)

The Festa dellla Donna is also a good night out for us single blokes!
By the way, in Sarnano (Marche) there's a disco for the festa, they are looking for amateur strippers...male. Prize for the best? A trip to Ibiza for 2!
I will not be participating this year so the competition will be wide open!
