I can recommend the lunch at Gusto in Piazza Augusto Imperatore; that's right opposite the mausoleum of Augustus and by the new Ara Pacis building by Meier, so very central.
For €8 you get a good buffet (one plate only, but you can load it up!) and a soft-drink or water. Dolce, coffee and wine are a little extra, but not too steep. There's also a €7 pizza option. The ambience is pleasant - eat inside or out - but the staff are a little off-hand. Still there's no pressure to wolf your food down and move on so you can linger and enjoy the view. Please be aware that this was written in March 2007 and fortunes can change quickly in restaurants in touristy places! |

Always good to have alternatives to pizza taglio when in Roma for under 10 euro.

We haven't yet had the pleasure of visiting Rome, but it's good to have a recommendation on eating out in a tourist centre, rather than relying on guide books. Grazie!
