When on the subject of using Castor oil, I think I remember reading in some reference book how it was used as an engine lubricant in early WW1 biplanes, however the fumes laxative properties could cause problems apparently for the pilot sitting just behind the engine in his smoky cockpit, ... Red Baron on your tail and caught short at 5,000 ft !!! ... Hate that ! What a bummer.

Torchy - this thread is about Olive Oil (and possibley Popeye will put in an appearance sometime soon) so your post is slightly off topic and must be deleted. Shall I report it or will you?

Yes it started on Olive Oil, someone mentioned castor oil, so I just added a possibly little known fact to do with castor oil, for the entertainment of the masses. Now ,.. back to the olives

This thread appears to have run its course now.

As the 'originator', I'd like to thank all who took part for making it so interesting and entertaining.

Would that they were all like that.

.

PS - I was surprised that no one followed up torch's input by mentioning that the pilots who spent their flying time breathing in Castor oil fumes, believed that Gin prevented the subsequent 'loose bowels', and so they proceeded to drink themselves witless when back on the ground
[or at least - that was their excuse]

I buy it at Esselunga throughout Tuscany; however, I have not seen it in other supermarket chains. It is excellent, worth looking for it.
