Default Traditional wood burning Pizza ovens

Hi,

I not only want a traditional pizza oven in my Italian home, but I also want one in the UK. I have a local supplier, but I was wondering if any one else has brought one back, as a decent sized one if you buy it in the UK is around £1500-2500. I am wondering what a logistics company would make of it and how much it would cost, as you can't quite fit them in a letterbox!

My other option is of course is to hire a van - expensive just for one pizza oven!

Has any of you smart people out there ever had this dilemma before??

The one that is going into the corner here is roughly 400KG That's without the stand The "little" one is over 300KG But those are "white" ovens. Those ones with the exposed fire should be smaller and cheaper. But they require more labour to install so you end up about the same in terms of cost.

Rafey, why not build one yourself? I did a Google search for wood fired ovens and found a website that gives you all the info you need. Of course I have not tried it myself yet. If your handy , you might like it.
Ciao,Dan

Hi, I built my own pizza oven after having eaten and enjoyed many pizzas in naples.I based it on the traditional Neapolitan design (it's important to get the proportions right) and after warming it up for a few hours it cooks excellent pizza in around 3 minutes. It was quite a big job but well worth it, good luck, Andrew

Here is a link to an excellent site (might be the one Dan mentioned) It even has a step by step guide to making the pizza to go in the oven too!

Nielo, you got it! That was the site I was talking about. I would like to try and build my own. Looks like a great project for the Fall.
Ciao, Dan

Very luckily our house has a bread oven still standing in good nick just by the kitchen. Its actually joining the wall!we need to rebuild the top and re-roof with its original coppi.

Somwhere down the line the door was chucked and despite searches around the garden we cant find it so luckily we have found someone in Lettomanoppello who will make another, cant wait to get it working again.

I've seen some lovely bread ovens made using wet clay! This is traditional in africa/south america etc.Cost v. little and what fun especailly for kids!Google breadoven and you'll get loads of info.

Great thread as I'm looking to repace my Nonna's bread oven that was removed when the house was renovated about 20 years ago. I didn't own the house at that time so I had no say in the plans. I would have kept the oven as it was fantastic. Now we have to spend silly money to put in a new one.
