IKEA sell them - is there one near to you? Other than that any of the baby kit type shops that sell cots, pushchairs etc or even some 'Toys R Us'.

Hi

I am in exactly the same situation, Ikea sell them but you need to have "standard width" stairs. A baby shop can sell them with extensions but be prepared for the price (mine cost over €100! for one). You need to go in with the width of your stairs and they will give you the pieces.

If you need to get a fire guard or "fence" to go around a stufa they do not exist in this country and you need to ship from UK! I have taken my battered Mothercare catalogue around about 5 different shops, to show them a picture and have been look at like I am some kind of nutter!!

HI Ho good luck with your seach and let me know how you get on

Thank you so much for the quick reply...I actually need the baby gate to keep our puppy out of the room that my very old cats (21 years old ) stay in...my puppy just wants to play with the old girls so much...but they (the cats) don't want to play...they just want to sleep and be left alone..I think our nearest IKEA is in Ancona...a couple of hours drive away....I might if I can't find a baby shop...have a day out to IKEA!!....I'll let you know how I get on....again thank you for the reply

your welcome, at least your animals won't need a fire guard!! My "furbo" turbo 10 month old needs tied down!!

Oh you might want to think about a play pen or travel cot they're normally about €30 in big supermarkets!!

A local blacksmith that makes standard fireguards will make one here nr Lago Trasimeno exactly to your specifications. The one on the Chiusi road from Magione on the left but takes a little while.

BABY GATE.
A gate can be bought from the baby shop behind Gherlinda next to Zeus apparently. (Before Globo and easy to miss the turning). Take a picture if you have one and the measurements of course. If that fails there is a Toy's Ur Us type place near by, next to the Ferrari garage. You can see it from the superstrada. If they do cost as much as stated, find a handy man pronto!

To stop our puppy from going upstairs we used a fireguard (parafuoco / parascintille -depending upon the shop). They are available in different sizes from most DIY type shops or hardwares. Ours is one that has a main part with two 'wings' that can be folded in when not in use - it worked fine and was much less fiddly and easier to move than any stair gate we have used and is useful longterm if you have any fires. A DIY shop local to us, SELF, also sells adjustable gates that can be fitted in doorways so it may be worth trying other large DIY outlets near to you.
