Custom made kitchens in Puglia

Hi. I am now in the stages of wanting to put a kitchen in to my newly restored trullo near Martina Franca. However, due to the uniqueness of the shape, I need to have a kitchen custom made. Can anyone recommend a kitchen maker in Puglia who could do this?

If you find one let me know. I am in San Vito, and have been looking for two years now. Our kitchen has mainly curved walls.

From our own experience with the old mill, irregular walls, windows at the wrong height, etc., the only way to have a proper kitchen is to have one custom-made. We are very happy with the results, although unfortunately we can't recommend our tradesman being so far away from you. What we did is we asked our neighbours and the real estate agent and they all recommended the same person. So ask around in your area and you will get useful information. The local bar and restaurant is also a good place for this type of information. Good luck!

You may want to try posting your request on this appliance/home remodeling forum for Chef Marty, an American chef doing up his trullo in Puglia. I've seen pictures of his kitchen and it's beautiful. He is having custom kitchen cabinets made. It's a little bit of a stretch but I believe he has a lot of good contacts with local contractors.

In Ostuni there is a restraunt called Locanda dei Sette. Franco the owner will be able to recommend somebody for you. He speaks great english. He has quite a few appartments in the old town which he's had renovated and I've stayed in three of them so I can vouch for the workmanship of the guy's he uses. I'll PM you will his details

I'm not arguing against a custom made kitchen by any means, but - depending on the floor are of the trulli cone you want to make into a kitchen - have you not considered an 'island' kitchen, or even a small U shaped freestanding kitchen? I think the inevitable 'wasted space' with any kitchen forced to fit into a circular pattern would make it not worhwhile. I think you need a designer before you start looking for a tradesman!

Read your post for custom made kitchens with great interest.
I’m an Italian speaking U.K Joiner living in Abruzzo. I’ve been a joiner for the last 30 years working in and around the building trade and have a wide skills base of other trades such as electrics, plumbing etc, etc. My early work was restoring country furniture, then hand-made repro’s, then hand-built country kitchens. Moved on to planning & designing, building & fitting top-end kitchens (both traditional & modern), bathrooms, bedrooms, studies etc & general house restoration, specialising in period restoration.
Planning, designing, building & installing a kitchen into a building like a Trullo with all its curves can be as difficult/expensive or as easy/cheap as you want to make it. If you want custom-built curved door & drawer fronts, and even curved timber front frames, following curves……… just make sure you’re sitting down when you read the quote. If you need to do it on a fairly tight budget you have to have a flexible approach, avoid pre-conceived ideas and think “out of the box”. Also, from a style point of view, you needn’t be limited to a traditional look because the juxtaposition of old & high-tech can look incredibly good. It must also be remembered that a kitchen is a work space & if it looks good but functions badly then it’s a failure & you’ve wasted your money.
Do you have any photos & drawings for the room in question? Not just plan view but including elevations if possible; showing not just horizontal curves but also vertical curvature? Do you have any photos of anything you have seen that you like? Can you describe what you’re after? P.M me & I’ll send you my e-mail address. Wouldn’t mind a bit of work in Puglia (have cousins that come from Lecce & my brother is interested in buying a property down there). Have full range of tools & equipment, van, roof rack, trailer & even a caravan.
