My goodness! I pop out for the evening with friends and miss all of this – more deletions and edits than posts.

Again I am not complaining and I know that it is always a judgement call but (and perhaps this is very typical as its ITALY mag) it seems rules are to be enforced on those we don’t know, or don’t think are lovely.

So just like in Italy its not what you know but who you know that matters. That’s a good apprenticeship for living here.

Surely here it's more like a 'private garage sale' than blatant 'spam' advertising...

When I see ads like this I immediately think "There but for the grace of God go I!" Let's face it, if there was anything remotely resembling a second hand market in Italy then Nicky would have probably shifted most of her stuff pretty fast - but, Italians, being Italians, and needing at all times to maintain 'la bella figura' ensure that the only way to deal with recouping some of your outlay, if you HAVE to move, is by finding somewhere like this, and other forums where the words 'second hand' aren't frowned upon.

So (no - NOT a poll), but can't we ask 'em for a Garage Sale forum!

A few of us asked recently to have a "For Sale" section taking into account cases like this. I would not like to see ads overtaking the Forum, but it can help members who need to sell or buy certain items. I would not consider that advertising. In the Furniture subforum we frequently get questions about where to find certain pieces, kitchens, etc. and we try to help by giving names of providers and that would not be advertising either. We need to use a bit of common sense when dealing with these topics.

I am sure that everyone is very lovely (wish I had not used that word), but I think that support for Nicky demonstrates the community spirit of the forum, and am sure that all members would do what they could to help someone else, especially when there are hard times.
I know that Marche has a high number of members, some of whom know each other, so it seems natural that they will also give each other a helping hand. I know Neilo that you have a local members group in your area, and am sure that they also would join in supporting each other, and that you would as well. So its not really about people being in favour, its about being generous with our help and support, right across the forum.Something that IMF is very good at.

You are absolutely right Angie on the Abruzzo forum there is a small ads section where members can offer things for sale or ask for things they want to buy.

I think I did not explain myself clearly, I agree wholeheartedly that people like Nicky should be supported, and I sincerely hope that they manage to sell their stuff and make a success of their return to the UK. I also have sympathy for all the holiday rentals, B&Bs, plumbers electricians etc who are finding things difficult at the moment, but I suspect that an ad asking for work would be frowned on. Perhaps I’m wrong?

Anyway as several people seem to think a small ads section would be a good idea, I shall create yet another group _ it is the only empowerment I have.

It will be open to all, visible to all and if people don’t want to use it there is no compulsion to join.

There is no criticism of Nicky's ad. There have only been requests for a "for sale" section. No reason for anybody to take umbrage. Nicky has wide spread support from forum members, remember that this ad' has been run at least 3 times now without censor. The Piemonte poster however was slated immediately for posting about her region where she happens to run a business.
Parity?

Maybe only 'proper' members should be able to advertise their goods rather than someone just joining to flog their bits and pieces.

I am a fairly new member of this forum and I also think a for sale section of some sort, in some suitable place on the forum would be great. I must say the amount and strength of debate generated by a simple garage sale ad is quite scary to newcomers!

Default Scary?

I shouldn't worry about that Chiarablu. A little debate helps to keep any Forum alive. There was a happy result for all, in that a Small Adds group has been added in the Group section, so take a look and buy!
