Have seen a few markets - one at Sarnano occasionally I think with bric a brac but nothing with furniture.
Do house content auctions exist in Italy?
Do Italians look down on 'second hand' goods?
Thanks for any advice.

Of course one can find second hand furniture here ,there is a place just on the adriatic state road at the begining of San Benedetto, there is another place at Caccamo near where the superstrada goes towards the mountains etc.Occasionally one can find something nice but on the whole unless you particularly like used stuff from 60's thru to 80's it's not very exciting.
Almost all the rest comes under the umbrella of "antiques" etc and is generally very expensive (it's enough to say that i know of at least three people who actually make a living importing old and antique furniture from the uk to italy)no Italians don't look down on second hand goods at all if it's good stuff they don't sell it if it's tat they throw it out.Auctions tend ,for the most part to be under the antique's umbrella again although in Amandola there is,down at the industrial estate "fallimenti" a place which picks up stuff from bancrupcies and the like i got a really nice new iron fountain perfect out of the box for Euro 70,00 for example and there was quite a lot of furniture too.
Having said all that i would (personally) do none of the above but i'd go to a decent furniture store (not megastore/ikea/mecatone kind places) and ask to see or look at catalogues of traditional style furniture not expensive i think you'd be pleasantly suprised what you can have for your money made of proper wood and made well looking old against all that dreadful swedish stuff from Ikea etc. and probably spend little more, without looking at figure( b) to put it together, they deliver, put it together if necessary (at no or small charge) and it's a totally different product and you're not even tempted to buy the pebble print!!!send me a pm if you'd like some address of places to see in your area without driving miles...
