Default The Old "mulino" Is Finally Ours

We are so excited! Our agents have called us to inform that the old "Mulino" at Bagni di Lucca that we wanted so much is finally ours. We were worried because we had given a power of attorney and we were not going to be present at the notary's office... but everything went just fine, the water mill is also insured, just the way we wanted it to be.... We are in heaven!!!
It has taken us 3 trips before we were able to found this particular property and we were quite pesimistic about whether we were going to find something that we would really love. We visited during these trips several properties, but we were not terribly happy with them ... and suddenly, as if it was waiting for us, it appeared. Exactly what we wanted and a beautiful location on the banks of the Lima River.
The mulino needs some work but it can be habitable very soon if our geometra can manage to get the electrician, the plumber and the builder on site to do some repairs and new connections.
Fortunately, I have the "built-in" architect, my husband, who will be having fun with all the works.
We shall be going to Bagni di Lucca at the end of November for a couple of weeks to oversee what is going on, buy some basic furniture, order the new kitchen... It is a pity that it cannot be ready by Christmas... well, it will have to be next year then. I wanted to have my "Italian Christmas" there.
I will try to attach some photos to a different message as I am having some problems with this one

You had a vision of what you wanted and waited for the right property. Now you can begin to enjoy your trips back to Italy in your "new" home. Congrats!

Thanks again for your message. I do not know whether this particular property was in that program. There is another watermill for sale in the area; however, I believe that it needs more restoration work that ours. Our watermill was sympathetically restored in 2000 (at least they did not cover the walls with tiles of different patterns and colours!!!!) and divided into two apartments. It was rented out for a while and then the owner had "the tennants from hell" in his property and, after they were evicted, he did not want to rent it anymore, gave it a coat of paint (very bad job) and decided to put it for sale. Fortunately, I happened to see the add from the agent, who also advertises through this site. Lovely people! We had been in touch with them before and we inspected several properties, but... there was always something wrong with them, something that did not fit our requirements.... until the "mulino" appeared. We organised a quick trip to Italy, actually, we even made an offer before seeing it.... (which is something I do not recommend generally), anyway, we arrived, inspected it, had the geometra looking at several things, the pest control people verifying that termites were not going to destroy it..., made a lower offer than the original one as we found out that there were more things to fix than anticipated and that we were not going to be able to use one of the cantine as a room because of the high level of humidity... and the seller accepted it following advice from his own geometra. And now, it is officially ours.
We are not going to use it as two separate apartments. The second apartment, which is smaller, can be used as additional guest quarters when our daughters bring in friends from overseas.
It has been all rush and lots of excitement. We are going there in two weeks time to have the locks changed... just in case the "tennants from hell" decide to reappear.
Cheers!

Complimente!! I remember how exciting it is when that last T is crossed and i dotted.
I am sure you are going to have lots of fun (ok with a few stresses - it wouldn't be italy without) with the renovation.

Does this mean you are not coming to Tuscany at beginning of Dec.

Best wishes to you both
