Default help for the small enterprise and or startups

it seems to be a common problem that many newcomers find is the tax regime here even if you just want to sell honey say from your doorstep and the hoops you have to jump through to start

the general advice is find yourself a good local accountant... and despite the relaxation that the link below shows i still think this is the best approach

one of the reasons that we keep up to date with these things is because the agenzia entrata writes to us anyway... but the other point is that our bookkeepers office is always on top of these new rules and is pro-active in advising us

the new rules in simple language mean that you can now start up or convert an older business over to a non vat paying regime, providing that you fall within certain guides...

there is a turnover limit... much simpler accounting, a fixed rate of tax on profits and various other things... and the best one of all is that you are out of the rigid assessment study system...

anyway for a start here's the link to the new rules that are part of the finance act 2008

Agenzia delle Entrate - Regime semplificato per piccoli imprenditori e professionisti

i know there are people on here struggling with start up cost problems or even giving up on the idea of starting at all ... if you have not already heard from your accountant/bookkeepers on the subject i suggest you have a read and see if you can make use of what to me seems a god send for enterprise here

there is even a test button on the right of the main page which allows you to see if you fall within the limits of the new rules

hope it helps and good luck to anyone that is trying to start up or run any business here maybe this will allow you to move forward

As you rightly say, a good accountant can make all the difference and it is money well spent as the savings, in the long run, can be considerable.
Another thing, is to be realistic. Prepare a plan and estimates. Always take into account that a new business can take some time before producing benefits.

Also accountants are remarkably cheap here and they do a lot more than just accounting. Ours also speaks some English if we get stuck with bureacratic Italian.
