I would say that it is a good idea to get dual nationality for your children. It is a long and complicated process but it would be worthwhile as it would give them the chance of working and studying in the EU without problems. You can always get the working visa for your son as a temporary measure. That does not stop him for getting in the future his Italian nationality and as it is allowed to have dual nationality under Australian law since 2002 there are no problems whatsoever. We are in the process of getting an EU passport for one of our daughters who has just divorced and she wants to stay in Europe. She cannot do it with an Australian passport and she has been her former husband's dependent for residency until now that the final divorce papers have arrived. Fortunately, we have everything under way already and she would have no problems.

I agree, I do think its a good idea just to pass on the heritage to my kids, I had no idea we were entitled to this until my son started to look it up. I really want to go there and research my family tree but just as I planned my escape after my baby was almost grown I ended up with another family and now have to wait until they are grow. This is not an adventure I would drag kids on, it would be too dull and boring and besides I like my own time. Actually would love to sneak away with my kids when they go.

Now the problem with me going there is which area as my family are both from the north and the south.

Go to both areas and then you will know where you feel more "at home"

Guess what everyone.

After writing to the comune di vicenza I got a reply. They have sent out my grandfathers birth certificate already.

I cant believe it as I only applied for it about the 9th April.

Cant wait for it to arrive.
