Default New life here we come...

Hi All,
We are about to embark on a new life in Italy, moving to Ricadi, Calabria at the end of July. I was recently made redundant after 20+ years in the corporate world and thought it was about time to get a taste of La Dolce Vita instead of "La Rat Race" We absolutely adore all things Italian, the food, the wine, the fantastic people... my husband even rides and Italian bicycle (Colnago E1) and is passionate about cycling (I take third place behind the bike and our dog Oscar). We are looking forward to chatting to like minded people who also love Italy and being able to share our experiences. Chat soon Pete & Wendy

Welcome to the forum and how I envy your move - one day we might make a permanent move. How come you chose Calabria it not the region most people choose to relocate to?

We have a holiday home nearby, well just this side of Tropea in Zambrone and often travel over to Ricardi to visit the restaurant A Turri and the owner Inya. You must call in as they are all very friendly. If you ever get stuck and need some help/advice we have a good friend who lives in Tropea and she may be able to help.

Buona fortuna

Hi Pete and Wendy and welcome to the Forum. I think that you took the right decision if this was your "sogno". We only live once....
Best wishes,

Hi All - thanks for your best wishes, really appreciated and a taste of things to come I'm sure....
Re your question Jenroy - we simply fell in love with Calabria, more specifically Capo Vaticano and probably were even more attracted by the fact that "it is not the region most people choose to relocate to". We will certainly check out your recommendation and thanks for the offer of help
Ciao

Good luck, keep us informed of how you settle in.

We are still planning our relocation. Hopefully it wont be too long.

All the best.

Hi

We were in Calabria (based in Tropea) over Easter. It was the first time we had visited the area and we were suitably impressed. I took my bike with me to test out the roads and found good and bad tarmac. I've always found that if the Giro d'Italia hasn't been to the region the roads are not great! However I did cycle around some spectacular scenery especially on the hills from Vibo via Acquaro and through to Laureana di Borrello. Great hills as well for testing the legs. I didn't see many other cyclists in the area so would be interested to know if you find any local clubs as we intend to go back next year.

Good luck with your new life

Default Welcome Pete and Wendy

Wow 'new life' sounds great We are keen cyclists too. We love it and plan to cycle to Rome when we retire. Our friends set off on the 20th April (flew to Rome with their bikes) and are cycling back, fully loaded with tents for overnight stops! Expected back middle of June! We live in Europe so no sea to cross

Welcome sogno. Different part of Italy but Penny in Le Marche runs a cycling outfit. You might have some insights you can share with each other. Her website is Sibillini Cycling - cycling holidays, bike hire, day trips in Marche, Italy
