Although we now have "alice" broadband (telecom italia phone variety) - we have had occasion to need a back up (for the occasional wek long outage!). Bought a tim 3g modem with USB connector first - then discovered that ther was no tim 3g signal at the house (my fault - I knew there was a vodafone 3g signal, and assumed there would be both). Fortunately the tim shop accepted this as a reason to return the modem and gave a full refund. Then bought a 3g phone/built in modem from vodafone. That works great (both at home and for trips away) - with a payg 100hours a month for 30 Euros.
I guess the message is check which 3g signal (if any) you can get first.

Hi Maralyn, I am in Harbottle near Rothbury in the Coquet valley, looking out on grey hills and mist............you are right it just doesn't compare. I do travel up and down to my Mother's in Hull regularly. If you fancy meeting for a coffee and a chat?
Shame I found this forum too late, I have made several journeys to Italy with my car looking like something from the "Beverley Hill Billies"!! £400 sounds very reasonable.

My wife and I have been proud home owners in Perinaldo for just over a year. Purchase went through extremely smoothly if you discount the dodgy property developer seller, the sewage problem, the cost of removing rampant ivy and the nutty neighbour.

We have a view to the mountains from every room which we never tire of, lovely local restaurants, bars and shops and equally lovely people who run them.

We've finished all the furnishing, decorating etc and now enjoy discovering new villages, restaurants, beaches and people.

I don't know how, or if I can, get on to the internet in Perinaldo. We do have a telephone landline. Or whether we can get Sky UK. Answers on a postcard to... In the event of a tie, the best tie-breaker 'I love Italian cats because...' wins

I also love jouneys by train from Ventimiglia, a particular restaurant in Dolceaqua, a bar in Soldana, Ligurian olive oil and so much more

As far as I know Perinaldo has ADSL now.. You would need to request enabling from Telecom Italia. Several internet providers have broadband checkers, if you have someone local's number you can try that or of course your own. I like the guys in the TIM centre at Modesti (Expert) in Ventimiglia, they would probably help you find out more - they're certainly patient with my recharges and do have some fluency in languages other than italian. If you wanted to you could also use a mobile phone or modem with a TIM SIM (or other - 3 doesn't cover Perinaldo when I last checked). I know what you mean about ivy, I've declared war on ours ....the view of the mountains is fabulous, you must be somewhere above us.

Ian you could nip up to the comune and speak to "Mr Internet" as the vigili call him - sorry can't remember his name. He is often to be seen sitting in the main office tapping away on a laptop. He was helpful to us when we enquired about Misco wireless internet - told us to wait, that broadband would come to Perinaldo. He might give you the inside info on how to go about things and a guide to service providers.

Well I visited the TIM shop, how many times haver I walked past it and not noticed, and after several false starts bought a little wireless thingy that fits in the back of my laptop. Istill don't know why they needed to photocopy my passport to sell me the thing!
At my house I have a strong TIM signal on my mobile, so thought all would be well with the laptop................I can log in just long enough to get to my email when the signal goes before I can read it! It returns again in a couple of minutes only to do the same again!! I have never had a signal for more than a couple of minutes. I have to drine towards the coast to use it but at least I can still access the net.
