A new bill has just been passed whereby the medical profession have to report back to the government any illegal immigrant they treat and a big row has ensued.

Thank you Sally for this post - it does highlight how difficult it is to achieve the right balance across a number of important issues. As the originator of this thread, I would be interested to know what your take on it is.

I think that such a law would go against the ethics of the medical profession. What about confidentiality and trust between doctors and patients? And what is going to be achieved by this type of legislation? I think that it is plain shameful.
