I do agree with lots of you sentiments, only find it dificult that an industrialist
[berlo] was in political power, and at the highest level too.

That will always to me be a conflict of interests.

FIATs market share of the UK is the quickest growing of any manufacturer
[cars] Whilst well short of its market share in the early 80s, whilst others
are indeed strugling to keep hold of their marketshare, Fiat is out performing
the market.
Can only hope they can repeat this all over europe, as of recent years,the
UK has been one of their toughest challenges....
And of course this would greatly aid the Italian economy.

I have the contrary view and that is God protect us from professional politicians. I want a leader who has done something before power and not just been a functionary

Well obviously not Maggie but Italy is at a crossroads not unlike Britain in 1979 just without the bad clothes and terrible cars. So a strong leader is called for of the stature of Maggie if not the politics. I am not sure the politics matter that much, a strong leader in difficult times will be expedient.

Berlusconi gave us the three 'Is' then Prodi decides to carry them on but because he has been asleep for a quarter of a century he thinks it is the three 'Is' carrying on from the seventies - Intervention, Intervention and Intervention
