IMNSHO, and I mean NO OFFENCE TO THE AUTHORS, but a couple of the threads namely: 'Why are so many English.....' and 'The obscene amount of....' have all the ingredients i.e. rogue estate agents, noxius fumes, exorbitant prices, etc. etc, to put anyone off Italy.

I think the World Banks should re-grade Italy's rankings in the table....it should be just above the Democratic Republic of Congo and below Timor-Leste

PS: Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I haven't come across any post which compares the Italian property prices to the UK. Lets be frank with ourselves: we the 'daftbrits' are quite happy to purchase properties in Italy knowing fully well that we are getting bloody good value for money.

One for you Nume, did you notice the report is an aggregate of a basket of scores some of which were not too bad for Italy.

However what really dragged them down was 'ease of enforcing contracts' 143 I think of 160 odd

That is the one that really bothered me. According to those stats, it is equal with Colombia on contractual enforcement and Angola is somewhat better, neither places where I would do business.

Default let's hope Veltroni or Montezemolo get in!

Many may not remember the 'prima Repubblica' pre-mani puliti. I do. Italy has gone so far...yet not quite on the right track.
The electoral system in Italy is a big problem and Veltroni ( I think ) hit the nail on the head the other evening when he said that 'we won't go anywhere until the method of undoing what the previous government did continues to be priority (just to be 'bastian contrari' as it were)...success isn't of the left or the right but of the citizens...'
Italy desperately needs to send to retirement the old fogies and make room for the youngsters. Montezemolo too would be another good personaggio.
At the moment Italy is a family ( Government )up to their eyeballs in debt, with their kids whining ( unions) because they want more pocket money and a new bike. Well Daddy has to pay off his loan first, or he'll eat away his wages on interest, and have to sell his house! oh and I forgot Di Pietro...another one who seems to be coherent.
