I had some sympathy for the "anti-cross" Judge until I read this bit:

"Judge Tosti first made headlines in April 2004 when he threatened to place symbols of his own Jewish faith, like the menorah candle-holder, in his Camerino court.

He later changed his mind after the Union of Italian Muslims (UMI) went to Camerino to demonstrate their support for his initiative."

classic! so a Jewish Judge threatens action against Christian symbology in the secular Italian courts, but when a muslim supports this threat he withdraws it. Kind of puts his 'altruistic' stance into perspective?

I recently saw some half baked comment elsewhere on this story from some old windbag, bemoaning the apparent failure of the hoi polloi to grasp Judge Tosti's underlying motives.

Old windbag got quite cross with the intellectual shortcomings of the poor old proles - he'd better watch out or he may find himself excluded from Italian public buildings too, if the ban on crosses ever gets implemented. "!!!!! lol" as they (used to) say.
