Well Sally,

I bet back in March that you didn't expect this thread to be ongoing into 2009?! Having had more time to reflect, do you think it will be sorted by next Christmas?

It's official now. Air France/Alitalia has purchased 25% of what is left of Alitalia.... or CAI.... or whatever they call it nowadays.....

I understand It will be Alitalia officially from the 13th of this month. I'm sorry that Air France is involved for when they merged with KLM, the fares went up on KLM. No longer can you find the reasonable fares to Italy they,KLM, used to have. They are a very expensive carrier and France doesn't have the low cost airlines to compete.

If you are interested, here are the latest news:
AFP: Alitalia seals accord with Air France: Alitalia board
Having worked for Air France many years ago, I can assure you that they have not spent 322 million euros for nothing. They are certainly going to make some money. I heard that they can purchase further shares if they become available... I can only guess that the remaining 75% belongs to CAI... but.... who are them.... really?
Oh, and Alitalia's name is going to be maintained. That's what they really wanted, so everything is fine....
