Default Italian / English Evenings

Hello Everyone,

We have, in Amandola Italian/English evenings, starting on 2nd December in La Rimessa. The idea is for all inglese who come along to only speak italiano for the whole evening and for gli italiani (that Rino assures me will be there) to only speaK English.

Fancy meeting more Italians or improving your Italian? Send me an email or PM and we will see you on 2nd December!!!

It is all free, you just pay for what you consume (a pizza or a few beers).

An excellent idea. Language is communication and this is a good way to improve your Italian. I only wish there could be more groups organised everywhere.

Unfortunately a lot of expats like to believe they are the only one's in the village and are appalled to discover other English speakers have found their 'private' piece of paradise.
Shame really as people could be missing out on making new good friends both Italian and English speaking.

You'd be hard pushed to think you are the only foreigner around here!

Default Date changeto 9th December

Hi fellow Marche dwellers,

the Italian/English night has been put back to 9th December for logistical reasons (that's what happens when you pick a date and don't check with the restaurant - oops!) and so will now take place a week later.

Also, to make it easier for the guys in Rimessa, they will put together some pizza slices and nibbles & drink for around €7/8 a head so we will need people to book. We'll have the whole upstairs to ourselves and Rino will set up one big table for us all.

I have contacted a local English teacher and she will be bringing her students so there should be plenty of Italians to chat with.

Posters should go up in and around Amandola at the weekend.

Don't be shy - come along

Default buona idea

Buona idea Penny

Imparare l'italiano lentamente, non potrà controllare una conversazione intera!

Shame we are not out in Amandola until 17th Dec. If this becomes a regular event hopefully see you at a future one in 2009.

Thumbs down Cancelled!

Thanks very much Robert but unfortunately I have had to cancel due to lack of interest Plenty of Italians but only 6 English and that includes ourselves.

Maybe I will try again after Christmas in the hope that the lack of takers is due to it being near to Christmas - or maybe it is just not a good idea

Sorry it was a no go Penny, but still think it is a good idea, perhaps those of us who dont live too close to Amandola are reluctant to leave their stufa side on dark winter evenings, perhaps a picnic when the weather is better might work?, somewhere like Largo di Ruffino?.keep us posted.

Penny, I think that it is an excellent idea and I am sure that, as you said, Christmas was too close. So try again in.... say February and I am sure that you will get a different response. Please keep us informed as this thread may prompt people in other areas to copy your idea. I am sure that you wouldn't mind.

Default Oh no!!!

I'm very saddened that this is not happening and feel more than a little guilty!

The thought of driving for circa 35/40 mins there and the same back later (on these cold, dark evenings) is a no-goer for me in these cool-ish times, and to 'commit' to it through probably even colder times is almost a certain no no!

IF it was earlier in the day, IF it was closer to me, etc etc (apologies) we would be more likely to be inclined to get away from the red coloured logs,

Thanks for the promoting, don't give up on us all..........................please!!
