Le Marche Le Marche is a region that is increasingly gaining popularity with visitors - happy to discover the region bit by bit, village by village through the winding roads that connect them together.

Default Food shopping over Easter weekend

If we arrive in Le Marche around Easter, will the supermarkets be open? I imagine the large ones like Iper at Civitanova Marche and Cityper at Piediripa will be, maybe with reduced opening hours, but I would like to know for certain. Can anyone enlighten me please?
Annie.

Here in Italy only Easter Sunday and Monday are public holidays - all shops open as normal on the Fri and Sat. Whether they will open on Easter Mon, I don't know, many are closed on Mon am anyway so I suspect not, but each year more and more shops seem to ignore some of the public holidays.

Good question Anniet2. I'm arriving on Easter Saturday so I would also like to know if shops/supermarkets/restaurants are open on Easter Monday or do we have to stock up on Saturday? I presume that restaurants will be open on Easter day.

Unless you can get local info to the contrary, you should assume that shops will be shut on Easter Monday - our local bread shop opens, and he sells some 'provisions', but the supermarkets were all closed last Easter Monday when we were there.

Restaurants - some/many will be open, but they may well be heavily booked up by family parties - so unless you can book in advance [difficult from over in the UK], I wouldn't bank on being able to go out for a meal.

We visited last Easter and while we weren't able to get into the first choice of restaurant we were able to get into one and had a great experiecne - we were the only English people (and only one man spoike English - he came to chat with us which was lovely), lots of big Italian families - our kids were out playing football (well it's an international language) - one of the experiences that made us decide to buy a property in Le Marche.

With the internet (or cheap calls available with VOIP or even without VOIP - it's not that much to phone Italy) you should be able to make reservations from the UK.
