So you would not get excited, if someone read your personal details. Good, well I do get (not excited) but angry! My question was to other members- has anyone had their mail opened?
As you feel it is correct that everyone knows your business then that is ok.
However why do the Italians harp on about privacy laws and maintain that they are leading the way in this issue ?
By the way you are now living in Italy better learn how to get excited.....Thanks for your reply.Pamela Catalano

Not quite what you said i.e. 'the postal inspector is basically a police force'

and then you post this obscure link for the 'polizia delle communicazioni' and not postale whose job is mainly concerned with telecommunications. There previous name harked back to the days of the 'PTT' or GPO if you will and has very little to do with the postal service

The Dogana on the other hand would be able to open post under due process

What about post going out of Italy. Our postmistress is very curious, "why was I sending a birthday card to France?, who did I know there, and anyway she thought I was English not French,...and the card was too small to post anyway and must go in another envelope"..which she kindly supplied.

I found it all very amusing, the PO being the source of much gossip around here, almost decided on a good tease for her, but then remembered must keep my reputation (whatever that is) intact.

How on earth did you resist the temptation to tell the Postmistress the birthday card was for one of your three French lovers? You'd have been a celebrity or at the very least, the talk of the town. Far more interesting than keeping a reputation intact Angie.
