I have just received all my insurance documents back from my brokers for the two cars. It was obvious that it had been opened, and restuck back again.
On the back of the envelope was a notice " LATO APRIBILE PER L'ISPEZIONE POSTALE" What about privacy laws, all my details are in there , date of birth, codice fiscale etc, etc.... When I was growing up, it was a sin in our house if anyone dared to open anyone else's mail. Good job my mother is not still with us. This is not the first experience I have had of the postale opening my mail, are they allowed to do this ? Has any other member had their mail opened and inspected or do the Italians think I am a spy 003 and a half???? Pamela Pamela |

Strange comment - unless perhaps you are Pamela's dad, Sancho?
I'm with Carole and Pamela on this. I'd be horrified to find that an insurance company had posted my documents in a form that was deemed to be openable for inspection. What reason would the post office have to inspect such an envelope anyway? To see that no personal notes were included that would have warranted a charge of a few more cents? The manpower & time wasted in the process goes against the idea of offering a "printed matter" service in the first place. It's nutty. |

The police stopped and quizzed your mail. The postal inspector is basically a police force. For whatever reason your letter set off alarm bells.

".....). GEDDIT NOW ?The "lato apribile" notice comes pre-printed on some envelopes. It just means that, if they want to inspect the contents, that's where to open the envelope, as it can be closed easily again on that side. There's an English equivalent but I can't remember it. It's printed on the back of some stuff I get from England. I never worry. Last edited by Sancho the Fat; 20-06-07 at 01:58 PM. |

No idea that this was " cheap rate" the money they charged for insurance , it should have come on a white horse, with diamond crusted saddle. However do not care if the post cost ONE OLD LIRE, they still have no right to read my mail. Pity the postale cannot find better things to do ( like trying to make the queues move faster in the post office maybe????YBUT maybe your mail is not as interesting as my motor insurance documents as you did not answer whether or not your mail has ever been read by the postale ?Thanks by the way.

No, I understood why you thought it was dramatic. I was questioning your use of the imperative. BTW I am pleased to see by your response that you are no stranger to dramatic effect yourself. ![]() |
