to apply for res, anagrafe want to see proof of income + health ins policy. The latter involves notifying English authoritiies who will issue E121 form. This transfers you onto the italian nhs system. Alternatively they will accept a private medical policy.
Anyone know how to go about applying for private cover, presumably via an italian company. What level of cover is required? All I want is to get the residenza then I`ll ditch the private cover and rely on my EHIC for a while. |

This is wrong. You get the EHIC card in the EU country where up to now you've been paying for national health insurance, see Applying for a European Health Insurance Card : Department of Health - Policy and guidance. It'll be OK for the country where you're going to live for the next so many (three ?) years - i.e. until you become resident in the other country and start paying National Health Insurance there. |

anagrafe/commune tell me my ehic is not acceptable, as its for temporary stays/cover. im retired, so they said i had to have private health ins policy, dont know if it has to be with uk or italian co. went to asl22 and knowledgeable woman said i needed e121 or proof of private ins, dunno about whether basic is sufficient, i think comp cover is required.
aurora policy works out at 930 euro p.a. , payment in 2 x 6 months..i have to pay for the whole year premium, they say, so cant dump it after 1 or 6 months. |

I have an Italian friend who is an insurance broker and he sells alot of these 'cheap as chips' health and repatriation policies to people applying for permessos. They are normally 3 and 6 months but I am sure you could get one for a year (3 months is 105 euro and 6 months is 180 euro)
Try a search on 'polizza fidejussoria' They are cheap because they are written to the absolute minimum level of cover required

Everything has just recently changed concerning residency. You don't need to have your Permesso di Soggiorno, nor proof of income or anything else for that matter. We went along to our local Anagrafe office with our UK passports, three passport photos and 5 euros each and they gave us our Carta Identita straightaway.
The health system has also changed, again no need for PdiS, the Administrator writes to Newcastle to ensure we are on the NHS register and then issues a permanent Health card. This can take a few months but in the meantime we have a temporary 3 month card and have become patients of an Italian NHS doctor. Hope this helps Genna |

Yep, I know and you know that the system has changed. I`m the one who is taking a print-out of the latest EU article, in Italian, down to the Anagrafe. Unfortunately the persons I see do not seem to recognise that UK, or Italy for that matter, is even part of the EU, so I get a few shoulder shrugs and little more by way of progress.
Thanks for the recommendations above. |

Add Schengen to the words and you get a better search (also used for Schengen visas)
I got this one: SOLDI SICURI - Fideiussioni e Cauzioni which seemed quite straightforward
