Sardinia Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean. It is one of the most popular destinations for lovers of aquatic sports and seaside holidays.

Default Sardinian Boat Hire

Hi there. Was wondering whether anyone has, or knows of someone who has a boat that can be hired out? We're getting married in Olbia in May 2009 with around 40 guests and we'd like to be able to transport everyone back to the reception venue in Golfo Aranci by boat! Have had some extorniate quotes so far so any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

The problem with carrying 40 guests is that the boat will have to be fully safety coded and that does tend to cost. Can't help specifically but ask a few harbour masters as they will have their finger on the pulse.

Thank you for your message - do you think splitting the party into two would make it more do-able then? And do you know how I would contact a harbour master? Thanks again!

Just seen your new massage. I suppose splitting might help. I don't know Italian regs but IIRC, in the UK DeptofTransport regs apply over 12 (I think!).

Can't help on harbourmasters, but try googling with a decent map or better a copy of a marine pilot book for the area: possibly available via a library or at a chandlers e.g.:
Imray Nautical Books and nautical Charts from Imray, Admiralty Charts and pilots for sailing navigation from Imray, Laurie, Norie&Wilson Ltd www.imray.com

I had a look for you through the Italian google using the words: "olbia golfo aranci noleggio barche" and I could not find what you need. There are some companies which do charters, but it is mainly sailing or motor yachts at outrageous prices. Could the people from the venue where you are holding the reception help you with that? It is not going to be easy, though, as a boat to transport 40 people is not a small one and 2 boats would not be a solution either. What you need is the type of boat in which they organise daily excursions around the golfo... but you will be looking at high prices there. Also, and I do hope that this will not be the case in your wedding day, think at the possibility of rain....
The most economic solution would be to hire a good bus and to ask them to drive you through the coastal road which is quite pretty. The same bus will be able to take everyone back to the hotel after the reception and a few drinks....

We operate a boat, unfortunately in Alghero and Olbia would be too far to sail.
The Tourist office in Olbia should have a list of suitable boat operators.
Good luck.
