Thanks for that. I live in the Aosta valley and there certainly is some great skiing here. I'm probably off to La Thuile tomorrow but there's plenty of choice and this year the snow is great: in fact more last night down to 500m or so. Some days I ski both Italy and Switzerland by going to Cervinia which is the other side of the mountain from Zermatt.

The biggest local UK operator caters for the school group market, so it remains to be seen how the economic situation will affect that. For keen adult skiers it's probably the last saving they make.
