Hi all,
We are a small family with 2 kids, a 3 year old and a 6 month old baby. We have a small house near Licciana Nardi near Aulla in Lunigiana. We intend spending some time in our house in early June but would like to have some beach time before that. We have considred a trip to sardinia but are now thinking of staying on the mainland instead. Can anyone recommend a beach are for some serious relaxation that would be around 2 or 3 hours driving from Aulla/ La Spezia area? we'd rent a house there for a week or so rather that travel daily. thanks for any info Ronan. |

What's wrong with Lerici? It's got a beautiful beach that had a european flag the last time I looked. There is also a private beach down the road a bit in Telaro, although I've never actually used it so can't give any opinion of it either way. We also have a house near Licciana Nardi and we drive down to the coast in about 35 minutes from our house.
Further afield, there's a beach in Monterosso in the Cinque Terre and Levanto ( I think, but google it to check). |

For a bit of a hidden beach head for Montemarcello, a few km a long from Lerici. It's quite an adventurous clamber down from the village, or you can take aboat from Bocca di Magra. It's beautifully black fine sand. No facilities down there, but great for a bit of an adventure.

One area to consider, although not a beach) is the river that runs through Licciana. There's a road that leads from Licciana to Tavernelle; take the right turning to Montale......park just before the bridge & go & explore......it may be a little adventurous for the children, or they might love a bit of a scramble :0)
This may help..... Google Maps If it is a beach you want, we use San Terenzo just after Lerici, but getting there early is the key ![]()

Sounds to me as though you'd like to explore a different area?
Our Italian neighbours head off to the area around Marina di Grosseto and Castiglione della Pescaia in Southern Tuscany every year (blue flag beaches). They love it. They take their bicycles and explore the numerous trails in the nearby forests etc. You also have the nearby 'Parco naturale della Maremma' and the Costa d'Argento. Shouldn't take any more than 2-3 hours to get there from Lunigiana. Parco Naturale della Maremma - Official pages Grosseto |
