Maureen don't know how to break this to you gently!!!
Last night there was an earthquake 3.2 on the Richter where?
Potenza Picena-Civitanova Marche and Recanati area.
Hope no one on the forum had any damage to property.
Does not appear to have had any serious effects.

We felt the quake here in Ascoli last night, or I should say my wife did as I slept through it.

Thanks for replying, a bit of a worry but not a lot you can do. Just have to make sure you have some kind of insurance and your house is safe. Maureen.

It seems that the earthquake riddle has been finally resolved; forget tectonic plate banging together........it seems there's a simpler answer -> BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | Israeli MP blames quakes on gays

Some crack-pot Israeli loon figures that 'quakes are down to homosexuals......I'm now intrigued to know what "they" get up to when the lights are off, if the end result is so "earth-shattering"!

Heavens, homosexuals?........In today's society, surely not! They'll be giving women the vote next!?!?

Default Terremoto!

Early morning of April 11, 2003 I was in a cafe in Serrevalle, outside of Milano. At first there was a loud explosive sound, then everything began to rattle. Cups, glasses chairs, tables all "danced" across the floor. All the Italians froze, looking like a deer in the headlights. Then one screamed "TERREMOTO"! Then everyone ran out of the building to the piazza. This was my first "terremoto" experience. It was a 4.9 centered in Sant'Agata Fossili midway bewteen Milano and Genova.

Earthquakes are common ALL throughout Italy. Most are mild and cause little or no damage. However, there have been major quakes over recent years. In 1997 10 people died and there was extensive damage to the Catherdral of San Francesco in Assisi. As mentioned in another post, the 2002 quake in Campobasso where the children attending a party died when the schoolhouse roof collapsed. In 1980, a magnitude 6.9 tremor killed over 2700 people. Its epicentre was at Eboli, about 80 kilometres east of Naples.

'assicurazione sui terremoti' (earthquake insurance) is a good idea!
