Default how much time do I need in Italy before the wedding ?

As a couple (one english, one Australian) we met on holiday at the Italian lakes and we would love to return for our wedding in late 2010. we live in Australia, and want to spend the absolute minimum time in Italy before the wedding. We can't afford the time or money to make a seperate trip to Italy before the big event. Please can someone advise on the legalities of what we have to do and when before the wedding where it involves us being there (we don't want to pay a fat fee for someone to act on our behalf.).We are very excited about getting married in Italy and want to start planning it but are nervous of the legal issues.

thanks

Pam

Dear Pam,
to know about the legal procedures for weddings you need to contact the British and Australian Embassies/consulates (it depends in which part of Italy you would like to get married). You can find all the info on the websites, even if there are many things to consider (first of all if you would like to have a civil or religious wedding). You also need to contact the town hall/church offices where you would like to get married. Unfortunately not many people in Italy speak English, especially in the offices, this is why it is usually advised to have someone local to help you. Bureaucracy in Italy is a mess!
If you need any more info just contact me!
Ciao
Micky
