Cypresses, olive trees and elms shelter this ancient casale, which affords breathtaking views across the sinuous hills and lush countryside of Le Marche
The rolling hills of Le Marche rise and fall around Casale Paradiso, an ancient farmhouse close to Penna San Giovanni. Golden and ochre fields stretch at its foot, and tall trees shelter it in a verdant embrace.
The bucolic views alone make the aptly named Casale—Paradiso means Paradise in Italian—an interesting proposition, but the interiors match the panorama.
This old stone and brick farmhouse has been carefully restored, blending original features with contemporary touches. Today, it is a place of exposed bricks, stone and timbers, vaulted ceilings and large fireplaces, but also bright, liveable rooms, made special by striking details.
The accommodation stretches over three floors, with the living quarters on the ground floor—a living room with fireplace and vaulted ceilings, a second living room with a portico, an elegantly minimalist dining room, and a huge, contemporary kitchen with fireplace, exposed timbers and direct access to the garden for alfresco dining—and the rest laid across the first floor and the attic.
On the first floor are three vast bedroom suites with original cotto floors and exposed beams, and a study, which gives access to a large terrace.
The attic has three more rooms and what is perhaps the house’s most beautiful bathroom, with its slick tub tiled with cotto and set against an exposed stone wall under cleverly lit eaves.
Outside, lawned gardens peppered with olive trees, cypresses and elms follow the sinuous contours of the hillock on which the Casale stands. There are plenty of leafy corners to relax and take in the views, but none more beautiful than the terraced swimming pool and its cotto-tiled solarium.
