The trash crisis which has plagued Naples for months has reached the shores of the idyllic Isle of Capri where local authorities are threatening to close the port on the verge of the summer tourist season.

For the second time this year, the romantic island of Capri has totally shut down to protest cuts in ferry service. The other two islands in the Bay of Naples archipelago, Ischia and Procida, staged similar protests on Tuesday.

The romantic Isle of Capri all but shut down on Thursday as islanders staged a protest over cuts in ferry service by the Caremar shipping line. The protest began at 8.30am when shops, bars and all commercial activity in the port of Marina Grande, the central town of Capri and its mountain neighbor Anacapri closed.
