Two gay men who kissed each other on the beach at Ostia were told to leave after other bathers protested, reports La Repubblica. This comes shortly after a lifeguard at Torre di Lago [Tuscany] threatened to fine a gay couple for kissing and a report of a policeman in Cagliari [Sardinia] who threatened to arrest a gay couple on Poetto Beach after a heterosexual couple complained that they were “despicable beings”.
The Mayor of Pesaro [Veneto] has initiated a “safe summer” with patrols to remove gay couples from the banks of the River Piave “because families go there”. In July a gay couple were violently attacked in Pesaro [Marche] where the gay male voice choir “Komos” , from Bologna, was prevented from appearing.
Now the gay community in Italy is demanding a law which will define homophobia as a kind of racism for which there will be penalties and, at Torre di Lago, there is to be a demonstration led by the gay Democratic Party Member of Parliament Paola Concia , Alessio di Giorgi of Gay.it and Regina Satoriana, a transsexual activist. These three will kiss their partners during the demonstration and invite members of the public to join them in a peaceful protest against homophobia.
Would you support the demonstration?

Sorry, i have a house in
Sorry, i have a house in Tuscany and near torre del lago, and i tell you, the gays on the beach arn't a problem....they're harmless and do nothing to me! but the mad parties at the gay nightclubs and the gays EVERYWHERE and kissing make little children think that this is the norm ! Think straight, be straight, everyone wants a grandchild and not one from Mongolia !
Every kiss a revolution
The folks in Rome were so damn right with the motto of their gay pride march in July (www.romapride2010.it): Ogni bacio una rivoluzione (every kiss a revolution)
Gay couple banned
Shame on you homophobs, Italian or otherwise. Torre di Lago is just down the road from some very gay friendly beach spots. Do you Torre di Lago folks think you are too....clean? I didn't see any one hurting anyone else in these scenarios. Mind your own business and don't intrude on any one showing affection to anyone else.
Why are italians so
Why are italians so homophobic? They're making a lot of euros off the renaissance, art, architecture, etc. from tourists. Who do they think did all that -straight guys - LOL!
OK, allow me to elaborate
OK, allow me to elaborate .....when I was last at Ostia I was having lunch with my husband at one of the ruins and when it became known that we were a gay couple by a group of tourists from Germany --lead by a Romam catholic priest that mocked us -- I said some very unflattering things in Italian (for effect), presented a never-before-used Italian gesture that involves slapping the upper arm while flexing the elbow, and then planted a long and luscious kiss on my husband's lips. Very provocative and maybe uncharacterisic of us; but nonetheless appropriate to these neantherdals. It has become a humorous footnote to a great vacation. The love that dare not speak its name -- I THINK NOT!!
Most definitely. Kissing
Most definitely. Kissing someone is a benevolent act and preventing someone from doing so is both hostile and a violation of basic human rights and dignity.
Let it be known that Ostia is the former ancient port of Rome. This wouldn't have raised in eyebrow then and in modern day Rome very nearby the same holds true. Hello, this is ROME not Tangier, not Kabul, not Baghdad.... Get a life for Chrissakes.
