Mozzarella braid (78.8m long) breaks world record

The small town of Sala Consilina is quickly making a name for itself as the world record holder for the longest ever braid of mozzarella.

They set the record in 2007 with a plait of 42.8m and broke it again this Sunday by making one of 78.8m long and 10cm thick. It took 40 cheesmakers 78 minutes to complete the feat.

They transformed a city neighbourhood in a mozzarella factory, requiring four tonnes of milk, half a tonne of curd and 100kg of salt.

This record was certified by a notary, a court clerk and the town's mayor.

Mozzarella world record

14th July 2007. In Gioia del Colle (the historical town of mozzarella ad dairy products) the 100 mt record was reached using two cheesmaker for each dairy company. I can't remember exactly how long it lasted, the liters of milk used, but it was certified by a notary as well!!!! We oeganized the event called "Biancascia" and, in the end the mozzarella was sold and the proceeds was given to charity.
