About the location - Isola Capo Rizzuto is the name given to this area; it is not in fact an island but a promontory, an area which extends out into the Ionian Sea which is surrounded by one of the Mediterranean Sea’s most fascinating protected marine locations. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and totally un-spoilt, plus it enjoys a protected status which ensures no high rise or high density construction and severe local authority scrutiny of any new construction projects. The beach front location makes the Santa Cristina development quite unique. The sea around this coastline, and the protected marine life which abounds, means activities such as underwater exploring are very special. There are several good marinas for those who like sailing and boats. The heritage of the area still reflects much evidence of the ancient Greek occupation long before the Roman influence.
The area of Isola Capo Rizzuto encompasses around 25 km of coastline including Capo Colonna, Capo Rizzuto and Le Castella, a famous Aragonese castle on an island reached only on foot by a small causeway and probably the most photographed castle in southern Italy. Nearby is the airport of Santa Anna, Crotone at just 12 km, Lamezia Terme and the main international airport on the west coast is 90 km around 1 hour 15 minutes drive. As a summer holiday destination Isola Capo Rizzuto is very popular with Italian holiday makers, but more and more international tourists are now discovering the area since the introduction a few years ago of budget flights from Stansted as well as other European countries. The Sila Mountains are less than 1 hour drive for summer trekking or winter ski-ing.
