Location:
Pienza, a small senese City, is a rare example of a Renaissance City which has survived to the present day. Often described as the ‘perfect city’, it shows us today what life was like during the Renaissance period and what their idea of an ideal city was. We can see the wonderful architecture and imagine what life was like many years ago. It is located in the Val d’Orcia, which is a beautiful unspoilt valley, this adds to the perfection of the City and shows us how a lot of thought and study of the surrounding countryside of a village or city was taking into consideration when designing the layout and architecture of the towns and villages in ages past. Today Pienza forms part of an area of natural beauty named "Parco Artistico, Naturale e Culturale della Val d'Orcia", which ensures the conservation of the extraordinary historical heritage of the five comunes of Castiglion d'Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani and San Quirico d'Orcia.
