: Farm Business specialised in the production of olive oil located in the Val di Cornia in the Maremma area of Tuscany. The farm has approximately 50 hectares of land, of which ca. 45 hectares are cultivated, ca. 10 hectares are wood and ca. 0.6 hectare houses farm buildings. The farm was completely agronomically restructured between 2005 and 2007 during which time there were planted 14,000 olive trees of mainly the principal tuscany varieties of which: Frantoio (5,250 trees), Leccino (3,100 trees), Moraiolo (1,400 trees), Pendolino (1,250 trees), Maurino (800 trees) and Leccio del Corno (800 trees). The farm is divided into sectors to allow for ‘monocultivar’ processing and cultivation and has been organised bearing in mind the employment of machines specialised in agricutural work and harvesting. An abundance of water from two wells, a water reseve and a share in a lake supply a largely underground irrigation system. In September 2009 the business acquired a modern plant for filtration, bottling, corking and labeling. The property consists of a house on two floors of ca. 350 sqm, various small farm buildings totalling about 85 sqm and an old brick built pig sty of about 45 sqm. The house is structurally sound and habitable though there is room for improvement on the inside and the installations (electricity etc.) either require over hauling or need to be renewed. In March of 2010 the farm obtained building permission for a total of 935 sqm of which 260 sqm is for living accommodation, 100 sqm for offices and 575 sqm for farm storerooms, oil processing plant, bottling plant, vats, garage for agricultural machinery. The olives are cultivated according to the rules of non chemcial defence against parasites as certified by the ‘marchio Agriqualità’. The olives are harvested, separated according to variety and immediately processed within the day. The oils produced are selected daily with the help of oil tasting experts and azote conserved and bottled in a temperature controlled atmosphere after having been IGP certified by the ‘Consorzio per la Tutela dell’Olio Toscano’. In four to six years time the farm can be expected to produce an average of 45,000 litres of oil per year. In 2008 when the first olive trees planted in 2005 came into production an initial production was realised in limited quantity of about 4,000 bottles, divided into two oils that were presented at various competitions with excellent results. The oils were selected by Slow Food for the 2009 guide ‘Guida agli Oli Extravergini’ and by Marco Oreggia for the 2010 Guide in the section ‘Migliori Extravergini del Mondo’ whilst the variety ‘Monocultivar Moraiolo’ was selected by the association ‘ASSAM’ on the occasion of the 6th Rassegna Nazionale degli Oli Monovarietali (National Review of Single Variety Oils) for the ‘Catalogo Nazionale degli Oli Monvarietali’ (National Catalogue of Single Variety Oils) published by the newspaper Sole 24 Ore and received the ‘l’Orciolo d’Oro’ at the 1° competition of ‘Concorso Nazionale degli Oli Extra Vergini d’Oliva L’Orciolo d’Oro’. The 2009 production of oil was about 30% more than that of 2008 and was presented at many competitions of which the results will come through during the next few months. The olive oils are sold in Italy and abroad at high class food shops and restaurants at the price of € 90.00 for a box of twelve 500ml bottles and € 55.00 for a box of twelve 250ml bottles (VAT inclusive / transport not included).
