Strada panoramica Loc. Barabo' Only "Le Bocche di Bonifacio" separate the latter from the Lavezzi islands, which are geographically belonging to the sae archipelago. On the whole, it is still a wild and untouched area, only and exclusively because of the common sense and love that the Maddalena people have for their land and sea both above and below sea-level. La Maddalena, which can easily be reached with a 15 minute ferry trip from Palau, is the biggest island, the only one which has a permanent settlement of about 12.000 residents. its town centre is one of the few original coastal towns of the northern Sardinian coast. Maddalena offers large stretches of coastline, practically intact, where big and small beaches alternate between peculiar forms of granite masses, the so called "tafoni" ( formed by the erosive winds)
